I have a huge toolbox in the back of mine, and going around a hard turn it slid and smashed an oil filter. So the toolbox is still in there, the un crushed oil filters are in the garage (although it would be cool to do a roadside oil change). I don't think anyone mentioned it - I carry a lot of stuff and a cheap, beater, 20 gauge single shot youth shotgun in addition to flares, misc tools, fuel filters, fire extinguisher, jumper cables, degreaser...
Just so I know - it is just the manual trans MBs that can be push or roll started, correct? Someone needs to invent an automatic that can be roll started.

My '87 ate the starter one day out in the middle of nowhere in Central WV. I was at the top of a mountain, let it start rolling and placed the tranny in 2nd at 20mph..... started right up!
Mercedes automatics can be push/pull started with no problems.

I doubt the *new* new auto's can be though, like the fancy shmancy 7speeds on the latest MB's, all you use to engage them is a stalk on the steering column that you tap "up" for drive, "down" for reverse and push in a button on the end of the stalk for "park". Good luck when one of thoses things has no power. Engine would probably die too, whether it be diesel or gasser.
All I carry is the MB toolkit, a first aid kit, and a spare tire. I have some lightbulbs...fuses...extra oil/coolant/ps fluid/tranny fluid....etc.....but not much else....All I've ever actually needed at the side of the road (so to speak, it was actually when I came back from a class at night) was a fuse...powered on my lights, and had no dash lights or liscense plate/right marker lights. I only had my headlights and left rear marker. Brake lights worked though. Didn't have any fuses on me, drove home just fine, threw in a fuse, and its been fine since (over 2 years). Our '83 blew its alternator 4 months after we got it. Locked up dead, burned up the belts, left the car stranded in the city about 12 miles from our house. We went back at midnight with a tow strap/rope thing, looped it through the tow loop on the back of my car, and the front one on his, and I drove it home at 10-15mph in first gear the whole way. I couldn't even feel the weight of the car on mine when I took off! My dad rode in the "dead" car and said he felt the force of acceleration pretty good when I took off. Replaced the alternator/belts and all was well.

Calling Mr. Whipple, We're Out of Charmin!
Actually, I prefer to use a Chiltons for that function. The paper they use is thicker and more absorbent.
At least the Haynes manuals usually have wiring diagrams in the back, making them semi-useful.
