Window washing system

The window washing stopped working my 87 300D. It worked intermittently right after I bought the car and stopped about six months ago. I checked the fuses and there is plenty of fluid. If the system is clogged, what is the best/easiest way to fix it?

Do you hear the pump motor working when you activate the system?

For these problems, I usually just try to bracket the problem by disconnecting the system at different locations until I've found the blockage. Meanwhile, flush out the reservoir - and perhaps all the lines (reverse flush) - to remove any other crud that may be in the system. I've seen some nasty systems where it looks like something blue gelled in the reservoir.

I've used a sewing needle to clean out the nozzles. be aware that the nozzles pivot in the housings to align the spray to the glass. I agree with prior post, clean out the tank, verify the pump works (has voltage) pull hoses and engage the washers to verify no blockage.

Sometimes the pumps die; mine was about $30 for a new one.

They were the little black cylinders that set in the washer reservoir on my 300TE at least

If you remove or replace the pump(s), change the rubber grommet that the pump slides into. They will quite often start to leak if disturbed. Cheap from the dealer.

head lamp wipers

Thanks for the help. I was playing around with the system and realized that it appeared to work if the head lights are on. There are two pumps, one for the head lamps and one for the windshield. It puzzles me. . . If one pump was not working, both would not work when the lights are on. I'd expect that the washing fluid would only come out of the lamp wipers since nothing happens when the lights are off.
