I can promise you that 85's are not prone to being slower than prior years. Seems quite the opposite just based off of how my wagon accelerates.
My alda cap has been removed, so I'm sure it has been adjusted. I would guess that would help that CD. (if and when purchased, of course)
There sure are a whole lot more vac lines on an '85 for sure, but I don't remember them going to the turbo??
My tach doesn't work either. Never has....... Remember, AC won't work if tach in inop....

Really? I was unaware that the tach had anything to do with the a/c, if this is so it is great info, I will put extra effort into finding the problem with the tach on my 82 SD.

and I don't know about algae having anything to do with humidity. humidity in the fuel is bad for several reasons, rust, IP damage, water lowers the fuel's burn rate, and it's not a good fuel additive at all. but the dreaded algae that gets in diesel fuel is afaik, not water related, the organizims actually manifest in the diesel itself.
you can search here and tons of other places for more info on the diesel organisms.

as far as the car goes, if it is rust free, has a smooth shifting tranny, the engine passes the blowby and the plug vent tube test (over 10 seconds is good) I would LOVE the car. so if you check this all out, feel confident recommending the car to your friend. be sure to inspect the rockerpanels and the frame/floorpan for rust. RUN if it has a lot of rust. everything else can be fixed.
btw, where is deltona fl?
John

The tach has nothing to do with the a/c on the '82 SD. It will run perfectly fine without a functioning tach.

so is the tach an issue with a/c on 123 cars? I am getting ready to invest in an 79 TD, so all the info I can get is good.
thanks,
John

Jimmy, I can't find any electrical controls that utilize a tach input on any W126 or W123 prior to 1986. The tach input was added to the Klima at the same time the serpentine belt was added.........1986.

Where are you getting this info?

On 123's this is only true on '85 models. I don't know about SD's.......

Thumbs up

'85s all have the Klima. No tach amplifier on them.

I believe they are slower stock versus an '84... I was only 8psi stock.

As far as I know...Algae simply does not happen without somekind of contact with H2O... humidity, condensation, etcetera. I suggest a quick read of the short technical paper at the url below to understand the relationship of algae growth in any fuel.

If you have a standard 4 inch tall air filter on top of the turbo, it's the federal version.

If you have a very tall, round air filter tucked in by the headlight, it's a California version. If this is what you have, it is likely that the trap is plugged up like mine is. It's a dog.

My federal version '85 runs like a raped ape, though.
