An 84 300SD with close to 200k miles for $8,000!

I don't understand why people think they can get a ton of money for a car converted to run on veggie oil. I mean, even the most expensive kit is probably around $2,000, and you should be able to easily pick up an old 300SD for max $2,000. You'd have to use a lot of veggie oil to justify spending $8K on this car.

People try to get what they put into a car.... they can try all they want. Who knows, after sitting on it for a month, maybee they will take less

I think it's funny how he advertises the block heater like it's some expensive option! Also, the radio is still under warrantee, yeah!!!!! That alone should bring a couple extra grand

I see no mention of AC, so I'd assume that doesn't work. And I am sure the "leopard skin" seat covers are hiding some really nasty seats. I don't think I'd even give him $2,000 for this car.

A block heater is a "must have" in NC.

He did say "negotiable"

A real plush ride. 187,000 miles. 2 tank VO system. Fuel lines all changed to B-100 compatible rubber. Block heater. Brand new Pioneer CD/MP3/WMA/AM/FM in dash player still under warranty. Leopard skin seat covers. Sunroof. New rear rotors and pads, just adjusted the valve clearance, new glow plugs. $8000 negotiable.

It seems as though people think adding a veggie kit will add extra value to the car.

If you browse the SF bay area craigslist, every once in while you see 240D in ok shape priced at $10K because of its "oh so expensive" veggie kit that they added.

I wouldnt pay that much just because it has a veggie kit, shoot why would he be selling it if it runs on free fuel?

i paid $800 for my 300SD with a partcially working veg kit, of course the rest of the car needed serious work.

Actualy if I were in the market for another diesel MB, I'd deduct significantly if it had a WVO kit installed. I'd have to remove it, and restore everything to factory.

For example take two 300SD's both listed at $5k in about the same condition with the same mileage. One has a WVO kit the other is stock. I'd probably settle around $4k-$4.5k for the stock one.

Now the WVO car, $2k no more. If it had been a WVO car for quite a long time, I'd pass.

I wouldn't want to buy a veggie car from someone else either, unless it was a really good setup, like perhaps a Frybrid conversion. The problem is you never know how many times they forgot to purge the system on shutdown, so you never know how carboned up the engine is.

I wouldn't touch any car that had been run on WVO, ever. There are plenty of good unmolested cars available, and you would never be able to remove all traces of that crap from the car. In addition to hacking up the car, who knows what kind of damage has been done. It's just not worth the risk or hassle unless it's priced as a parts car.

Why? I'll show you why. www.prairiefirebiofuels.org sells B100 at $3.68. But wait, for paying them $150 a year, you get to buy it at $3.33. I can get D2 at $2.55. Why would I pay $0.80 a gal more assuming I am a paying member? Because they are trying to take advantage of people who have environmental concern. Just like panhandlers holding up a baby or a dog to gain sympathy. I have a couple of cans of dog food I feed to the dog myself in my car sometimes but I don't give a hoot about them.

Somebody might have tried it and found that it was more hassle than it was worth. If I did that and died, my wife would be selling it off because she doesn't want to screw around with it. She'd rather work a couple more hours and pay for the fuel. Maybe I got into an accident and cannot be going around to get the oil and process it. Plenty of reasons.

Thats interesting... for me, theres no way I'm gonna pay $2.55 for every 20 miles, when I can get it for free... I guess it all depends on how rich you are and how many miles you drive... 3.68 for biodiesel is a complete and total rip-off... so is 3.33. It should be around $2 or less, and it should be made with ethanol and oil feedstock from locally grown crops, with no external energy inputs (i.e. petroleum or biomass grown elsewhere). Just my opinion.

You said "Maybe I got into an accident and cannot be going around to get the oil and process it." I'm not sure why this is a reason not to do it... your car would still run fine on diesel.. I'm not trying to pressure you into anything though, each to his own.

Also, to the right person, an extra $1500 or so for a nice car with a sweet veg system is a bargain... it saves a WHOLE lot of time, part costs, and work, and "works right out of the box"
