Alternator belts
When examining my belts today I noticed the alternator has two.
Is this for redundancy or does the alterntor need that much belt surface to push it?

The alternator has to work VERY hard after a cold start..the old diesels had a single 12.5mm belt & they slipped and would wear out quickly in COLD weather.

...and when you change them, do it in sets of two matched belts.
