wiper motor maintenance

All;

The other week the wiper motor in my '85 300TD started making excessive noise in operation. I pulled the cowl panel, and disconnected the wiper linkage from the motor, the noise continued.

Is the "gearbox" that converts the motor output shaft 90 degrees serviceable? Any chance that I can simply open that right-angle housing, grease the gears accordingly, and quiet it back down. Or is that a factory sealed assembly, and I need to place an order with Phil?

Thanks,
Dave
