Finished painting my 85 300D, but I need your opinion about Color again - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Under fluorescent light the color looks like you wouldn't even want it on your toolbox. However under normal lighting, the color comes out okay. I seriously wish I had stuck with Dark Blue but I made a last minute "gut choice" color change for something less serious----I didn't want my car looking like a hearse or an embassy Mercedes....now I wonder if I will have to live with this for some time--thats because the engine and trans on this car are all good, it goes into daily driving very soon....

(please excuse the doors in my kitchen, but I actually did that for safety reasons, you need to have plenty of space to fit the car in there and besides everyone was on vacation.PS I put those hardwood floors in myself Suginami, so if I hear anymore Purple Door jokes............)

How does the color look outside? Thats where it counts, in the sun in may fill out nicely.

I just said "Honey, I didnt get you the new car you wanted, but i did get you these new doors.." Actually as I said, everyone was on a vacation or trip, I was alone for a week. Those doors are gone and the House is spotless today..

Working with colors is an art form to say the least. Proper perception for the average person like myself would have to wait until the car is back together with all chrome on etc. It will probably be allright as seeing a panel here and there can be far from a true indication. How did the paint flow out for you and much orange peel? Your two photographs illistrate directly the difference in lighting. The doors appear to me a much darker blue under non floresent lighting. Yet the exposures look fairly consistant. Its a kelvin color temperature kind of thing. To actually visulise the paint inside you would have to borrow a corrective photographic filter or carry one panel outside and look at it.

i would say, as long as the craftmanship is there, i am sure it would look very good no matter part of the visual spectrum the paint reflectes.

The color looks darker in the picture where they
are in the kitchen.
So it might not be to bad.
It's kinda hard to tell without them being on the
car and in daylight.

Looks nice to me thought.

What's the name of that particular color? Is it a factory color? I've been starting to get interested in blues lately for some reason. There's a late model Porshe I see everyday sitting in a used car forecourt with a similar color. Well, I can dream can't I?

All kidding aside, I don't think any of us can tell what color your car looks like without actually seeing it in person.

Your paint color will look different in different kinds of lighting. Flourescent lighting has to be the worst for representing true color.

I'm not a fan of the color your chose, but that's my personal preference. I prefer the darker colors, like dark blue and burgundy.

However, if you like it, that's all that matters.

dark black blue is the exact color i ordered first, i had it in my hands..........

There you go. You should've trusted your initial decision.

Well, look on the bright side. You certainly learned how to paint better by applying this color.

You can live with this jelly bean blue color for a year or two, then repaint it in the dark blue that it deserves.

I'm tempted to start repainting it already....but I am just too tired. Anyway in winter, its always dark and noone will notice, so come March, I will repaint her..I already hate the color and thats the truth..I have no heart to reassemble the car or take the masking paper and tape off...maybe I will just leave it on over the winter until i repaint her!!

Color is a very personal thing and the only person that has to be satisfied is yourself, and of course if you're married, her.
