Anybody got an opinion on the new 4.4L ford line?
I read a blurb somewhere about the Euro ford 3.8 liter being bumped up to 4.4 L and put in american vehicles as an option. Hot Rod Mag I think, they seem to think several of ford's vehicles small trucks and mini SUV's may get the option.
anybody got any info on this or good/bad opinions? John http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/9/story.cfm?c_id=9&objectid=10389817 http://www.autoblog.com/2006/04/08/ford-launches-high-end-diesel-v8/

Those look neat, now they need to make a smaller V6 that they put into the smaller SUV's...

If they try and offer another fire breathing torque monster for the F-150 then they deserve the downward spiral they're in. Some market segment may want that and Ford should supply it if they can. The larger market, IMO, is a 5 or 6 cylinder TDI that gets over 25 to 35 mpg's with modest performance. IOW, a work truck for workers.

I fear for my life when I have no other choice but to ride in someone's ford. My friend has a '92 taurus, the doors are made of reinforced tin foil. I almost broke one off the car because I was so used to the weight of my W126 doors

3.8L, even twin-turbo, seems a tad small for a full-size pickup.

I believe the smallest diesel offered in the sprinter vans is a 2.1 liter 4 cyl offering a range of BHP from 88 to 150 hp. I don't know what they do to create the spread. Ford and Chevy has a market for a full sized pickup for someone that doesn't care about the 0-60 times but have grown weary of 15 or 18 mpg's. A full size pickup to run to home depot and pick up a lawn mower or some two by fours for a project. Many would also be sold to those who work out of them for a living like framers, plumbers and delivery people. Of course, I'm not personally investing a couple of billion on the gamble. Currently, neither are they. Therein lies the problem.

My wife drives the Excursion with the 6.0 Diesel. I brought it into the dealer for service. I have had some issues with the turbo. I talked to the service manager about the F150 having a Diesel motor. He told me they were planning to put the Twin Turbo Diesel motor in the F150 and Expedition in 2008. The motor puts out 200 HP and 300 and some FP of tourque. The motor has been used in Range Rovers and Jaguars since 2002. They have had good results.
I Will look into it, maybe after the second year of production. It depends on who does the electronics on it. That was the problem with the 6.0 diesel (Texas instruments). They have since fixed that problem. Now if they could not use cheap Turbos we will be just fine. Just my .02. |

If they put the twinturbo in as an option I'm all for it. if they bring another 15 MPG truck to the market then I will say a prayer for the American automobile industry, It will prove they are shortsighted and deserve to lose to our offshore competitors and we deserve to be a nation of service providers unable to produce anything. We can import Chicom made cars and trucks of all sorts and rebadge them. Now, where do we find someone who'll be able to afford them?

I'd prefer if they went with a VGT turbo. The only reason they go with TT is it's cheaper to manufacture and buy control electronics.

Fault Of Research & Development
For Other Retarded Drivers Saw the ad on TV from the retired autoworkers, claiming GM, Ford, and Dodge are driving America, buy hiring Americans. That's all well and good, but how about quality? People buy cars that will not leave them stranded, or spend more time in the service bay than in thier garage. My GM vehicle were more reliable then my Ford vehicles, but my Japanese and German vehicles have out lasted all of my American made ones. Here's the kicker...my last GM car was an '88 Olds Calais 2 door International series. Sweet car, but it's alloy wheels, radio and other electronics were made in Japan. The aluminum engine accessory brackets were made in Mexico. How is that a true American car? The American Car industry IMHO cannot claim they are made in America with out sourced parts and assemblies.
