W124 300D Head restraint removal for seat cover…

Hi everyone. I'm in need of a little help. I want to replace my existing sheep skin cover in my 1993 300D but I can't for the life of me figure out of how to get the head restraint off! I've ran the restraint all the way up and tried to pull it off straight, no go. Do I just need to use more force? Is there a release button I don't know about?

Anyway any pointer would be great! I don’t want to break it!

Thanks,
PaulW

Inside the back of the seat there is a release button that has to be pushed, you can't see it but it's there, just feel the way down the left metal "stick" and you'll feel the button!

If you have the power headrests (which I suspect you do) then this is a bit more complicated than just pushing a release button. You'll need to remove the seat back and disconnect the headrest from the motor mechanism. The link that whunter provided has the exploded view.

Thanks for all the info! I'm really sorry to hear I have to take the seat a part just to put on a seat cover!

No, simply run the headrest up all the way and press the release button (you can feel it through the seat fabric). The picture that "mouramen" posted is straight from the owners manual and illustrates this.
