Yes, the fear of the unknown........

Everyone had me worried about replacing the bushings in my Wagon today. I think I did it in 30 minutes working leisurely...and for those that don't know I am a very slow worker and I usually have to do everything twice.

The clips on the rod come off very easy by finger (I reused them as they wer slightly different than those I ordered) and if you need a small flat head screw driver.

Pull rod out under shifter. Then place a bit of WD-40 on the bushing and get a large washer. Grab some channel locks and with the washer put it on one end of the bushing (the end you will have sticking out)...then take your channels and put it on the washer and simply push the bushing thru. It didn't take much force at all. Then place rod back in and place clip on. Took about 10 minutes.

Then move to the front bushing and take entire shift bracket assemly off with a 10mm. Then remove clip and rod and take it to work bench. Here I used a socket (to) bushing (to) shift assemly (to) washer and put it in the vice. Put some WD 40 on closed vice and it popped right through. Went underneith car....reverse assembly and walla!!!

Couldn't have been easier.

Now if someone could explain how to get that white safety clip back on the NSS that would be amazing...couldn't get it on to save my life

I made the same conclusion for the SD. But, the alternative was to remove the shifter. I really don't want to go through the nightmare of that operation with the rear vent ducts in place.

However, the benefit is that you can replace the bushing in 5 minutes on your kitchen table.

This will be a slight consolation for the two hours spent to remove and reinstall the shifter.
