I don't think those lines will ever see much above 3 bar. In fact, it's probably much less than this value.

Well FSM says oil pump releif valve 7 bar. Of course those get much less, I'd guess 2 bar at most.

All great replies, thanks, but after going to 3 hydraulic shops (one would not reuse fittings) I have too much time in this. I think I will call Phil and order OEM. Could'nt one just use fittings, proper hose and hose clamps? Refitting would be much easier . .would not have to pull motor mount, etc. Thanks!

I do believe that some members did exactly that. Use very high quality, double hose clamps at each connection. Not as durable as a factory crimp, but, will probably be fine for 50K miles as a minumum. Just requires more attention from the operator to ensure the hose/clamp interface remains in good shape.

I used Sheilds 7/8 wire bound exhuast hose and double clamped each end with high quality stainless clamps. Its been over a month and still holding up fine.

It depends on what the car is to you, if its a good car you plan to keep order the lines from Phil. My SD is a $500 winter car, so I'm not going to spend $200 on oil cooler lines.

Besides they don't just blow you need to keep an eye on it. I take a glance at it once a week or so when I check the oil, just to make sure nothing is leaking.

Warmblood,

Send me your fittings with directions as to which direction they need to face and I will have my local shop make you some just as they made mine. Cost; about $40 total.

the guy who made up my lines took them back and ordered me oem which I installed today, WHAT A PITA! I followed Diesel Giant's instructions but even with motor mount removed that upper hose is one nasty mo-fo to refit! Now I just need to power wash the driver's side of my car and remove the oil that was being slowly sprayed over the past 6 months or so. I found this job to be difficult when it should have been easy . . isnt that always how it is?

They see the full 7bar pressure. When the oil is hot, 100% of the oil flow will pass through the oil cooler due the the thermostst in the oil filter housing.

7 bar isn't normal operating pressure, thats the max it should ever get before the releif valve on the pump blows.

With these old engines I bet 4 is as high as they ever see.

We'll see....

I'm going to install a 0-200psi pressure gauge when I build my by-pass oil filter system.

Routing of custom hose?

PICTURES! I have done the replacement the factory way and still have the original hoses. If I ever have to help someone else do it, I want options. I would like to have some ideal as how you routed them and how long you made them. Thanks.

The oil pump pressure relief valve is ON the back of the oil pump... thus it acts on the oil pressure first... they put different pressure values on it at different times... 3 to 5 bar I have seen in the FSM for the 240 for instance... the 100 percent flow can only be of the oil left in the system after the pump relief valve acts...
