suspension check question

Hi- I have a 1985 300DTubo. When I go over a bump the front passenger side wheel hits really hard. The tire dose not hit anything it's more like a metal to metal hit. The lower ball joints/bushings/tie rods/shocks have all been replaced within the last two years. The passenger side shock does seem a little less responsive when I push up and down over it compare to the other ones. The upper control rubber boot is torn. How can you determine if the upper control arm is bad. When driving the car there are no vibrations and the tires are not wearing funny not yet anyway. Can the springs go bad? There are no signs of stress/cracks etc. on them.
Thanks
Mike

it sounds like a bad shock on the pass side to me. if it is gone the wheel will bounce up and down unrestrained and make a hellofa racket.

let me guess, is it not a bilstein? i am guessing it is not.

it wouldnt be a gabriel would it?
