What is this North Korea? We shouldn't have to be afraid of our government and that includes the EPA. I don't blame you for being upset and would have no problem telling the EPA to take their $10,000 fine and go fly a kite if it ever came to that. They could never prove you knowingly disconected some emissions control stuff anyways. But the bottom line is you did sign a contract so you really have no recourse. This is a good lesson to the rest of us. Don't bring your car to the dealership to get work done unless you don't mind some tool of the man doing whatever he's ordered to do to your car without you knowing until its already done.

Never heard of the EPA going after an individual, but they do sometimes go after shops. I wonder if the dealership didn't feel comfortable letting the car out in an illegal condition.
My local muffler shop used to have a big sign on the wall that said, "If you don't ask me to remove your catalytic converter, I won't ask you to pay the $10,000 fine."

MB has a bad habit of leaving NLA items on their price list for years. The trap is p/n 603-142-02-94 and shows current MSRP of $1370. I wonder if they have any left on the shelf somewhere.
