32 degrees this morning and my ememgency brakes where stuck on 87 300SDL

Well as the title states the brakes were stuck. When I pulled the release, the EB did release but the EB light stayed lit. There is a little play in the pedal. When I lifted it up, the light went off and stayed of. But When I got to work, I could smell something burning in the rear, had to be the EBs. Should I try to adjust them? Or will they wear in some. The EBs are tight. I can only press it 1 or 2 clicks before it engauges.
Thanks
A

cable

Could it be that the cable just need to be greased? The eb had not been used for some time and I just had new EBs put on. It does not feel like the brakes are holding the car back.

if there is water inside the cable it could be frozen. in that case after thawing out lubing it should help.

or if it is rusty lubing it should help too.

if you JUST installed new brake shoes in the em brakes then an adjustment might be in order.

Something's wrong here. One or two clicks before engagement is WAY too tight. It could be that the cable needs lubrication, but I suspect that something has happened in the rear. Perhaps you've broken a hold-down spring, allowing a shoe to get hung up. I would definitely take the rotors off to see what's going on back there as soon as possible. Depending on how much the drum part of the rotor is worn, you may have a hard time getting the rotor off. On some old American cars I've had to grind the head off the hold down pin behind the backing place to get drums off.

Hard to tell you need to inspect the brakes. If the pedal is not coming back up then the cable under the car needs to be adjusted. Mine is tight, since they are supposed to be 3-4 clicks.

If you smells something burning I'd remove the rear rotors and check the shoes. They are probably gone and in need of replacement.
