Stabilizer bar bushing........driver's side

I changed the driver's side sway bar mount today without removing the brake booster etc. I was not looking forward to doing this side because of that. I found a post where someone had said they had gone in from the bottom. Well it wasn't easy but I think it was better than taking all the other stuff apart. And I'm glad I wont have to mess with them for another 23 years!

Probably a pain in the butt either way. I'm glad I took the booster off though because I noticed I needed a new master cylinder

I had to re weld the plate back on that the sway bar mounts to so I couldn't avoid removing the brake booster...

Wow. I can't imagine doing that with the booster/fuse box still in the way on a W126. Now just hope the sway bar itself doesn't need replacement anytime soon. I had to replace the one on our '83, it took forever and beyond. I estimate around 60 hours, had to R&R everything.

Why was it replaced??

G'mornin'

My Benz has begun to creak/groan on occasion when the suspension is worked.....have been trying to locate the source of the sound.....Driver's side......have inspected all joints and bushings, and all look good.....no grease fittings, so no way to lube anything......if I cannot pinpoint it soon, I intend to spray some silicone based stuff on all of the rubber parts, maybe that will quiet it down.....

What indications did you have that your sway bar needed replacement?

Now that I think about it, there is a rubber bushing that it passes thru just under the Brake Booster......hmmmmmm

I doubt its your sway bar bushing. I changed mine just 'cause I was bored and figured it might tighten up handling. It did, surprisingly. As did changing the rear plastic sway bar brackets.

Are you sure your balljoints are good? They are usually the creakers.

This car is new to me, it passed inspection 3 months ago, creaking just began a coupla days ago. This car apparently sat for some 5 or 6 years, with little movement. So, I guess anything is possible, will have front brake rotors off on Monday.....will look a little closer at that time.

I got the car from a charity where it was donated, so I don't know the second owner, or the first owner....second owner got it in '96 from a dealership as a MB Certified.....carfax was all good! I assume that the second owner is an MD...amoung the golf course fliers and medical related giveaway pens and other stuff that I found under seats and spare tire....was routinely serviced at the MB Dealership, have the logbook all nice and stamped.....car was tagged all of the time, but driven very little during it's last 5 or 6 years....now I've got it.....!!!

As a retired Ship's Engineer, I have been doing all sortsa M&R stuff, just because I wanna know, for sure...and I want a reliable car for Bio-Diesel use.
Changing out fuel hoses to Nitrile Rubber and such, the only liquids left that I have yet to change are Power Steering and Coolant (it tests good, real good), I have the PS filter and fluid handy, just haven't gotten there yet.

Used less than 1/16" of Lube Oil in the last 3000 miles!!!

Our car had the drivers side of the sway bar break off where its bolted through the upper control arm, thus, we had to replace the entire thing.

Here is the epic thread about it: Read and enjoy!

W126 The EPIC has BEGUN... Project "Sway" is Underway!

I have been replacing all the rubber bushings etc. on the front and rear suspension. The old sway bar mounts were compressed and the holes looked like big ovals instead of tight circles. I am almost done with all of this work. The car keeps feeling better and tighter every time I change something. Next to go are lower cower control arm bushings and ball joints, track rod mount replacement with new front subframe bushings etc. This is a great forum to learn how to do what ever needs to be done. Thanks.

G'mornin',

When I purchased it, I had no clue that it was a rare tractor in North America. I have since contacted....

www.eicherfreunde-forstern.de/

.....among others and have found that they never had a destributorship in North America.

My tractor is a '67 Eicher Puma II ES202....it is a vinyard tractor, was originally purchased by a vinyard in Northern Ohio, probably from seeing one at a wine show in Paris in '66 or '67.

Eichers were sold worldwide (excepting North America) and are sort of like the John Deere of W. Germany......I had seen them in Europe and Africa, knew that they were good equipment, so when I saw this one for sale I bought it.....have owned it for several years....works very well.....

My mistake.....I have the proper product...my memory failed at the moment that I typed that.....as far as the name of the rubber goes.....purchased the hoses from a specific source for that purpose.....you get the idea tho.....renewing the old hoses, before running bio-diesel ....

Did you check the steering damper?

ShoreBilly,

You might want to also check out your 'steering damper' (does your car have one?) It's a shock-absorber lookin' thing damping forces within the steering control arm assembly.

On my 126, this was a source of a 'groan' while steering... Relatively inexpensive, and easy to replace.

to isolate a sqeak, make sure you only spray 1 thing at a time.

i R&Rd my sway bar on a 123 last month. i was pretty worried about it, but i was reassembling inside of three hours. that includes some minor rust repair around the battery tray.

if anyone needs a pair of swaybar mount bushings for a sedan, PM me. i got the wrong ones first time around.- the wagon has a larger diameter sway.

sell pretty cheap- maybe $10-$12, depending on shipping.
