Red face Hard Brake Line Failure

Our '83 has been drooling brake fluid out the back end for a few days, so I finally put it up to check on the problem. I found that its coming from the main line that goes from Master Cylinder ->rear distributor. Its rusted and leaking. I ordered the line from the dealer...only $28. Does anyone know if this comes pre-bent to fit? or does it have to be bent...we have no tool to do so. If it does we'll just let the dealer do it probably. Help or suggestions would be appreciated....good news is that it got a valve adjustment today, and the chain has barely 2Degs of stretch.

It will come with all the bends in it.

Good luck

I had the same problem with my wagon. I got the straigt line at NAPA and didn't have too big a problem bending it, but it was a PITA getting it in there between the suspension and everything. I can't imagine taking a line that was pre-bent and getting it in there. I hope the sedan is easier to work on.

Like I said, good luck.

You can be thankful that it didn't blow open with a hard brake.
Early in my UPS driving career, I was driving this old Ford powered UPS truck down a steep hill, fully loaded when I put on the brakes and heard a loud pop. This thing had single circuit brakes so when the front hard line failed, I had NO brakes!
Got it barely stopped with the emergency brake.

Thought I was going to have to change my shorts!!!

I bent mine myself, and the removal of the old convinced me that I wasnt going to be able to put it back in in one piece. So, I cut it infront of the rear wheels, then connect it with a flare fitting. Works nice. I will put that as a 7 on the 1-10 PITA scale, though.

There's quite a bit of room underneath the big o'l 126's....it won't be that difficult, you only have to get it over the rear trailing arm, which is easy. I'm guessing it will take me less than 2 hours to R&R. Maybe I'll take some pics.

I bought one and despite what everyone told me, including the parts guy at the dealer, it wasn't bent, just a straight brake line. Could have gotten the same thing at Autozone for much cheaper.

I hope it is pre-bent, that would save a lot of work/the need for buying a tool.

Mine was prebent, and then bent some more so it could be shipped. I had to kind of unfold it, but it went in OK.

Looking at the posts it appears that the line for the W123's comes unbent, but the one for the W126's comes pre-bent. Cool, since I have a 126.

As one should expect the S class is above the E after all.

How the heck do the ship that line without kinking it? If its the one I'm thinking of its pretty long.
