116 eng into 126

Is a 617 5 cyl turbo out of a 1980 sd 116 body interchangable with a into a 126 300sd ? Or are bolt patterns for trans different?

It should work fine. I planned on doing the same but I fell in love with the W116 donor car. No rust!

Bellhousing bolt patterns are the same.

there are a few differences oil filter location and others... on some of the early ones. bee sure before you switch...

Better check the old threads here...someone did this and the oil pan- sump are different and prohibites easy installation. Not a straight swap/install.

One of the engines has ribs cast into the bottom cover (I'm not sure which engine has these) that will interfere when mounting the engine in the other body. I have heard that the offending ribs can be ground down to clear.

Well I was hoping the block/head and major pieces are the same....I'd like to rebuild the short block and head and then if I need to use the sump/pan and access from the 126 to finish it up. Any input appreciated.
