Newbie with a few questions

Hello all,

I am new to this forum. I just bought a 98 E300 Turbo Diesel and I love it. I took it to the dealer for an oil change and had them check the whole car out. They told me that there was nothing wrong with the car, but I think that they didn't really do a good job checking it out.

I do have a couple of questions about the car and was hoping someone would know the answers.

1. When turning left, I hear a loud low pitch humming noise coming from the right front of the car. Sometimes it also happens when I accelerate from a stand still. Is this normal or is it something that needs to be fixed?
My brother has a 99 E300 and I've never heard this noise coming from his car.

2. I'm only getting about 28 MPG on the highway. I've read that people are getting in the mid 30's. Is there something that I can do to improve the MPG? I had both fuel filters changed.

3. I want to change the wheels on the car and was wondering if these wheels would fit. They are 17" AMG Monoblock Wheels off of a 2000 C320. The part numbers on the wheels are 202 401 01 02 and 202 400 03 02. Was wondering if they would fit my car

Thanks for all your help in advance.

im not exactly familiar with ur car, but u should run diesel purge through, trust me its worth it, if ur car was sitting for a while then if u give it a couple of nice runs ,"floored" then it will clean it out.

im not sure about the rims though, however im sure someone will

I don't know about the rims either...
however, winter mix fuel will give you less power and mileage, wait for summer mix to get a good feel for what your mileage will be.
I second the DP request, not sure on your vehicle how to put it in, but check out dieselgiant.com and look up the diesel purge page for general instructions.

Welcome to the site. Post your location and check to see if their is a good independent guy for your mercedes locally.. Also check on site the list of good shops. Most dealers are motivated to empty your wallet as quick as possible. There are exceptions but check that area out carefully. I have seen dealer bills that are insane sometimes. On the otherhand some guys do not mind being bent over. Matter of choice I guess. You might have a front wheel bearing acting up but not possible to tell for sure. Read as much as you can about your model series of car in the archives as well. Then you will have a clear picture of what problems are common. Also what to expect down the road. Best of luck with your car. Enjoy it.

You should do better than that. My '96 NA gets about 32 overall. I don't know what it gets on the highway, as I've never checked.

Make sure that you're burning the fuel, not leaking it.
