I just put in a Stanadyne FM 100 housing with a 3.6" 30 micron filter on my 300SD. I also added a drag point vacuum gauge between the fuel pump and the FM 100. I'm getting 17 inHg after WOT on the way to 75 MPH. This seems a bit high. It can't be the new FM 30 micron... or maybe I got a bad one. Maybe I have a clogged tank screen too. I'm going to bypass the FM 100 and see what I get.

Does anyone know what the vacuum should be in between the tank and the fuel pump?

the fm100 for instance is $88, when you can find it various places for close to half that. stanadyne is awesome though otherwise..
I found a source for $37.

There are many who ADD water to their WVO upon injection into the airstream.

They purport that it cleans the valves, pistons/rings.

Injection into the air stream is completely different than water traveling through the fuel injection system.

I just wanted to double check before I installed my FM100. There are 2 sides with there own in and out.

One side #2-in/#1-out.

the other #3-in/#4-out

I can choose just to use 1 and 2 only and block off the other side?

or I can use #2 on one side and #4 on the other?

How many miles is the Standyne filter good for?

As often as an oil filter?

Fuel filter longevity has much more dependent on fuel quality than time in service. One bad load of fuel can clog a filter in short order.

In addition, Stanadyne offers a variety of filters. Asking about "the Stanadyne filter" is a lot like asking "How heavy is a rock?"

Here is some more fuel filter stuff if you are interested in replacing your 10 micron filter with a 2 micron one or a larger filter with a drain.

I bought the Water Reservior Option and put it on my filter.

I thought you unscrew the bottom piece to drain water but fuel was coming out. What am I doing wrong? Does the water just collect in the bowl and stay there until you change the filter?

Yes. If no water drains out then your fuel does not have any water (that is a good thing).

If you are getting water in the bowl then you should buy your fuel from a different source.

I installed a FM 100 several years ago. I have never gotten more than a trace of water out of it. Which is a good thing.

Thanks Guys.

Like most Mercedes owners with the 300D, I lack visual sight of the water bowl. The filter is crammed in a corner.

But in general for future service I should open the screw and let it drain for a few seconds?
