Yep, those darn moderators must be out to lunch again.

Every piece of wood on my 1985 300SD is showing signs of cracking.

I have noticed the wood seems to crack sooner on most gasoline MB models.

There is a fellow in Florida, I believe, who will refinish these pieces at a reasonable cost.

I think I may have the link somewhere if you're interested..........

Yes

The cheapest local I have found is $500.00 for the three piece dash, and $200.00 for the shifter panel.

Wood is meant to be refinished, not replaced. Find a competent woodworker in your town and have them work on some extra pieces from a junkyard find. Shouldn't cost too much, I hope. I've got to have my center console piece done at some point in the near future.

There's a local wrecker who is asking $500+ for a very good (used) center console insert

Post #6 is the cheapest local refinish cost I could find.

I will not put down what price they want for the door wood.

Tried that with one of the best. Problem is to get the kind of finish MB puts on it from the factory, without dust ect. You need to spray it in a complete dust free booth with a super high quality spray gun. No you can't get that finish with a spray can, if you do your eyes are not that good. Said wood is a veneer, so you can't sand it much. Stripping it with a heat gun seems to work the best, just don't burn it.

I have been toying with the idea of saying screw it and doing it like a Rolls I saw. Replace the veneer with another and just put 10 perfect coats of varnish on it. I need to do something because my wood sucks, and spending $2,500 on new wood is going to suck more.

I replaced the center console wood in my broker's SDL last year, $350 from the dealer.

I work for someone who does this professionally, trust me when I say he is the best, I'm not the only one who says this.

When I made the zebrawood panel for my 3-gauge panel, I finished the wood in my garage, putting on multiple coats of Varathane with a small brush. As you might expect, it turned out pretty half-a$$. Fortunately, the panel (replaced the ashtray, you may remember) is down where it doesn't show and the gauges take up most of the space. Doing a really good job on wood for a location that's in clear view must be a challenge.
