Bump-start an Otto-matic?

I just read something in a thread that suggested that it might be possible to bump-start (pulling, pushing, rolling down hill, etc) a MB with auto trans. Is this true. I've always had manual gearboxes, and it was one of the things that I liked about them. Particularly up here in the frozen north.
While I'm asking dumb questiions about Otto-matics, what's recommended for tow-barring one? Is it actually necessary?
Thanks

You can indeed tow start the Otto's. Check the owners manual. As I recall it is mentioned there.

Talking Data overload

Please add your car data (1982 300d) to your help request posts , many members have turned off signatures due to slow dial up.

Answer to your questions:

#1. Yes, you can push or pull start many Mercedes Benz automatic transmission vehicles, you may not want to try this if the transmission has performance issues, burnt fluid or extreme high miles.

#2. Flat towing (tow bar) is a BAD idea over more than a couple of miles, trailer or roll back car hauler is the safe way to transport.

#3. The following links should be all the data you will need for diesel winter survival.
