Low Heat I Think ?? on 300sd
Hi , I was going to work ,the temp was 0 c according to my dash gauge all I could blow from the vents was 85 F on ec position and the dial on max !
On the way home it was -2.5 c and it blew the same temp with the monovalve unplugged ! (I tried to get more heat) I drove 35mi @ 85 mph still no more heat ! Is this just it ?? It did not matter what position the ccu were pressed in, ANY IDEAS?? Thank you ,J Last edited by jef d; 12-05-2006 at 09:20 AM. |

First thing to check when you have insufficient heat is the monovalve diaphragm. Remove the four screws from the top of the monovalve.......pull the cover.......and check the condition of the diaphragm. Usually, it's got a tear in it......and that's your problem.
If not, then the problem gets more complicated and costly............. |

A low temp reading, after sufficeint warm up time, often indicates a thermostat that is stuck open, neccessatating a new one. Around $20 and easy install, just make sure you also get the "o" ring gasket affair. If this does not help, you are looking at a costly repair such as a new heater core. Good luck.

I took out the monovalve diaphram and did not see any hole in it , I streched it a couple of times and it looked fine ! I also went and ordered a new one anyway ! Now what ? thank you J

I had similar probems before I changed my thermostat. The engine never really warmed up, and I only had warm air. Switched the t-stat and now the engine warms up quicker and up to actually running temps and I get hot air.

I aquired the car from an old Dr. in Lousieana about 6 mo ago, The car was very very well taken care of, they always used genuine MB parts as far as I can tell ! 222,000 mi on it now, even the anti freez is Mb ! I looked in the stack or service records and found nothing ,besides normal maintance ! thank you J

Was the heat working properly at any time during your ownership of the vehicle? What's the reading on the temperature gauge when the vehicle is at operating temperature? |

OK, WELL, SORRY TO HAVE PUT U THRU THAT BUT at least you know the mv is ok....
on my 84D, i had similar problem as you described and that was due to a non functional aux pump. I rebuilt my aux pump and now I am getting heat. look for my thread on this. I had pics and showed how I did it. But b4 you go too far with that, test the pump first. unplug it and apply 12vdc from battery. if its working you will hear it whirling. If its bad, you will hear thunk or no response. no response could mean open armature coil wires and you'll need a new/rebuilt replacement. thunk means its most likely cruddy inside and its trying to turn but cannot. thats what i had - cruddy inside.

Also, a bad Aux WP can cause the demise of a working CCU.
My Aux WP works fine, and can be heard whirring when the engine is off, but the ignition switch is in position 3. I did wire in the 1 amp fuse, as posted about in this forum. I had the same problem of low heat, and the temp guage stayed at or below 60c when the temps dropped into the 40's and 50's F. Installed a new t-stat and found the t-stat was missing during disassembly. Now it gets real toasty with a working t-stat installed.

80C normal?
I'd suspect that engine thermostat - I drove home last night and it was snowing and minus 5 C (yuk, salt on the road, had the wrong car out...) .... my temp gauge was steady at around the 75 to 80C mark.

The thermostat should be replaced with a proper 80C. unit and the gauge will read close to 90C. I'll bet that there is no thermostat in the housing. Once you replace the thermostat, the heat will return. |
