96 E300 Diesel starting problem

My 96 diesel with 76000 miles doesn't want to start when the temp drops below 40. Unless I plug it in ,every time I try to start it the red and green lights on the mirror start to flash. The glo plugs check out fine. Ideas anyone?

Does the engine crank, but not start, or not crank at all? The flashing LED's mean that the Drive Authorization System (DAS) is preventing the engine from starting. It's only a thought, but try cycling the door locks with the remote key when this happens. For what it's worth, I've seen plenty of DAS problems on cars like yours', but never one that was temperature dependant.

Thanks for the tip, I tried both of the keys but no luck. The car cranks but won't start untill I plug it in. Does the K40 relay control the DAS?
