Coolant Changeover (Green Stuff to Zerex) Question

So, I'm due for a coolant flush. My car currently has the "green stuff" in it (from a radiator replacement two years ago). But, having read all the posts on coolant, it seemed to make sense to go with MB Coolant or Zerex G-05.

Was no small feat finding the Zerex, which I eventually did at a local Napa. But as I'm walking out of the store, the guy behind the counter made the comment that it is not advisable to switch from the green stuff to the Zerex (or similar) products because of chemical reactions/corrosion that will result. His contention was that, even if you flush the system, the metal parts have already reacted to the green stuff in such a way that, when replaced with Zerex, accelerated corrosion will result.

Granted, it's just some guy behind the counter. But it did unnerve me a little bit, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Thanks.

you should follow the advise about "citric flush" first. I belive a degreaser in the system first, then a good solid flush then the citric treatment, Then and only then, the G05
Good luck.

Is it necessary to do an acid flush even if there's no evidence of corrosion? Not to mention a new radiator...

No idea, it's just been my experiance to do it. gives everything a really good cleanover and removes any junk in the motor.
how old is the car in question? how long since last flush/fill? how long with Green in it?
your choice. but you did ask about the coolant problems...

PO always had it serviced at dealer, so I'm assuming it had MB coolant from 1992 to 2004.

It's had the green stuff for the last two years, since radiator was replaced (also time of last flush and fill).

If it's been two years, then time for a good system flush, drain and refill. Who added the green stuff? A MB dealer would not use it.
