Smile Tachometer Inop

Hello, I have a 1993 M-B 300D 2.5 Turbo with an inop tachometer, what should I look for as a possible cause and repair of same?

Regards, Lgriffi

Inoperative tach by itself is unusual. Typical causes are bad overvoltage protection relay (IIRC between the battery and the firewall) or engine RPM sensor (below the starter). One of these then would be accompanied by low idle RPM, no cruise and no AC compressor.
