Who Wants a 5 Speed?

I didn't even know they offered 5 speeds on a W126! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercedes-Benz-5-Speed-Manual-Transmission-126_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33733QQihZ019QQitemZ290058102029QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Looks like the seller knows what he's doing by including the entire kit that is worth repeating here:

* Transmission - 5 speed GETRAG 717.402

* Flywheel - its a 108 032 05 01, slight marking on the wear surface could be easily resurfaced out

* Clutch driven plate - this looks good without any cracks, slight marking on the wear surface could be easily resurfaced out

* Pressure plate - all the fingers are intact and no unusual wear

* Release bearing - looks good no unusual wear

* Throw out arm - looks good no unusual wear

* Clutch slave cylinder – recent replacement, working, no leaks

* Hydraulic lines between master and slave cylinders - this include the two hard lines and the short piece of rubber flex line, the hard line at the clutch is still attached, the circuit was parted at the connection joining the hard master line and the flex line, and at the master cylinder.

* Brake/clutch pedal and master cylinder arrangement - works, no leaks

* Shifter - works, includes knob and shift boot (this is torn), mounting gasket

* Reverse light switch/Speedometer sender harness – this is included, the sender it intact

* Shifter/tranny control rods - these are marked for both end positions

* Center console shifter surround - it’s included, but it’s in very poor shape cracked and broken

* Adapter plate - the cast aluminum plate is undamaged

* Driveshaft - this is a complete drive shaft, the center bearing is in good shape, the bearing carrier will need to be replaced, the spline rubber protector is present but old, but the spline telescopes freely and the securing nut is good, this front driveshaft has a rubber mounted weight just behind the tripod joint is in good condition

* Transmission support bracket - this bracket is the cross piece that bolts under the transmission and the rubber tranny mount bolts to it, the mount is included and appears in good condition

* Exhaust pipe bracket - this bracket includes the bolts and rubber spacers in fair shape but you might want to replace these

* Assorted fasteners - tranny to bell housing bolts/nuts, adapter to engine bolts, flywheel to crank bolts (these are waisted stretch bolts that may still be in spec), bracket bolts, etc.

it seems like a good deal to me.

but before taking it i would shift it through all gears and twist the shaft to be sure all gears engage. someone more knowledgable than me could take off the side or top cover and look at the synchros and see if there is excessive wear.

i probably would want it checked by an expert before paying for it. if the seller is on the up and up he would allow this.

judging by his answers he sounds consciencous.
