well here is my story. I called in sick (

) and called him early morning (around 8am) and told him if i can go see the car and if i like ill buy it on the spot with cash in hand. But he told me that he couldnt and he setup for the interested guys to come in at around 1pm.

So i decided to be there early at 12ish, arrive and already 3 guys were there in W123 diesels. The owner comes out with slips of paper telling me,"i hate to have to do this but with the high amount of interest were going to have to big on it"

Looking at the car the front end would need to be replaced, both fenders and hood. paint was shot. The car would start up but the oil cooler was leaking oil on the street so it couldnt be driven without the oil cooler. The interior was clean, the seats werent ripped or cracked and were firm. The blue dash was cracked and alot of wood trim was falling off, two pieces were broken. But other then that the carpet needed a shampooing and vaccuming. The rear door wouldnt stay up but that was ok for me. For $400 it seemed ok. dents all around so it would need some body work that can end up in a pile of $$$$

The engine had 165K miles.

So to the bidding, he waited till 1pm to see who was the highest bidder. An older farmer looking guy said he wanted to pay what was listed on the ad $400. i put in $550. the other guy came down from ukiah and said that his wife has one that was rear ended so he had the front end.
And it seemed like he really wanted it as he did come down from ukiah, so he was the highest bidder at $800. But i though ehh for $200 more i can find one with a straight body and i can drive home.

But the guy who claimed he came from ukiah suspicously looked like the guy that i meet at the sacramento GTG, who brought this C43 AMG.

i talked to reid (DDH) on the phone and he said it may have been setup to be auctioned to make more money. My friend thought so too, he was saying that he did have all the little slips printed out saying name: bid: can you give my insurance an estimate on repairs: yes/no and he didnt let me come over to see it early morning.

Oh well. There will always be other wagons out there. Guess this one wasnt meant to be

Bummer

Usually when stuff like that happens (multiple people at the same time), it makes me want to just go home immediately. The chance for the good deal and bargaining power is lost by that point (as is obvious by your offering price).

I think somebody willing to pay $800 for something with that many problems is crazy. Or like you said trying to scam you into offering a higher amount.

If that's the case, hopefully it backfired on 'em.

Sounds fishy. Stinks you didn't get it but you are saving yourself money. And exactly as you said, for 1k you can find one running, it may take awhile but it is possible. Too bad you had to miss a day of work for that kind of crap.

thanks guys. Its to bad, i really wanted the wagon but ive seen them pop up on craigslist for around $1k all the time that will run but need work.

Dude I'd sell you mine for a little more than that, but you'd have to come to Austin to get it
