603 injector leakage

So I haven't posted here in quite a while. I started college at the end of summer, leaving me carless in a city far from my own.

I left my 87 300D with some issues, and the time has come to resolve them. Perhaps, in the cheapest way possible.

All of my injectors leak out of the center (it is a two part assembly). This only began to happen after I replaced the nozzles, and first I suspected that I hadn't torqued it down enough. After thinking about it though, I don't think that's the case. The leakage doesn't seem to affect performance or power, but it does create a strong, baked diesel smell every time I run the car. Surely this is killing brain cells, and I can tolerate it no longer.

I don't want to spend 300 dollars on a new set of injectors. I was wondering if it might be a good idea to caulk (high temp materials) the leakage zone on the injector? I remember reading a success story a while back along these same lines.

Anyways, I look forward to taking your guys' advice. Thanks in advance!

Hmmm

If they are assembled and torqued correctly, the normal issues are:
* Fuel return hoses leaking, never reuse the old hose, once removed trash them.
* Fuel injector tubes not seated correctly and/or cracked.

Well, I will try replacing all of the hose, seeing as I did use old hose last time. However, the leaks appear to be coming from the middle of the injector, where the two halves come together. If this is the case, could I caulk up this area?

Are you sure it's not just pooling up there? Replace the return lines, then continue troubleshooting if the problem persists.

I wouldn't put any "caulk" anywhere unless I was doing emergency repair. How would you ever get the surface dry enough to caulk up anyway, diesel doesn't exactly evaporate.

NO, it will not work.

Leaking fuel return hoses cause pooling EXACTLY as you describe.
