How to dissasemble /grease a 1992 300 td (W124) Wiper mechanism...
Hello, all. I have read many posts about repairing the 'Benz monowiper on this
forum, however, none that I could find described my unit in particular. It seems as if there are several variants of the design...And considering the replacement cost of the unit, I went ahead and made up a simple HTML page (external link) that shows how my version comes apart, and what to watch out for. I found it to be faster for me to do it this way, rather than learn the v-bulletin code for posting inside of our forums' WWW space. THANKS to all those before me for the tips, I would recommend a lube job on an aging wiper assembly now, before the abrasive debris inside of it shreds the plastic/nlyon gears...I was going to make a new set of gears, I program EDM cnc machines, but in reality, the 'ring' gear has a form that would make replicating it a serious task..it is not the teeth that are a challenge, it is the right-angle form of it's body... Check it all out at: - http://web.newsguy.com/illinois/benz/monowiper.html - later, marty |

About how long would you say the job takes?
I've got a cracked front window that is going to be replaced soon and I was thinking about just pulling the wiper off before the window dudes touched it just to avoid any accidents with our "wacky wipers". Might as well lube it up while I'm at it right? Thanks for providing this, and it's going to be the same for all E-class owners of the W124 body style I imagine, not just the wagon.

reply for time estimate...
Well, it took me far longer to get the unit out of the car, prob. about
3-4 hours. i did NOT search the forum on this task beforehand... so by reading the instructions on the link inside of the first message I posted, you will do it in 1/2 the time. I spent time learning how to do it, you can read how beforehand... As far as cleaning/greasing, you will get it done in a night, after work. A couple of hours, I would say. mpf |
