My uncle bought a like new 1991 350SD about 6 months ago. Black on palomino.... Beautiful car. 140K miles, it was a 1-owner, garaged, etc. Interior looks like it has never even had a person setting in it. He told me that he had heard about the rod bending and wondering if it was an issue on these cars. I came here and found out "yes".

I gave him the news and he said he will hope its never an issue with this car... not anytime soon anyway.

BTW- I think he gave $5400 for it. A old woman had it and it had every service record with it. Oil changes at the local Mercedes dealer every 2500-3000 I think he said.

Mine is a '95 model with over 360,000 miles on it. No rod problems so far! I think the rod problem is overblown.

I hope the 1998 engine installed in my 350 serves me well... so far no problems.

Where did you get your motor. Did you rebuild yours or buy one?

A previous owner had it done (To the tune of $8500!). I called the shop and they said they used a new crate motor, and the date codes on the inside of the valve cover say it was cast in '98, so I would assume the rest of the motor was made around the same time. The engine was replaced in 2002.

Wow, thats cheap for a new crate motor. Most of the re-builts are going for at least $7500.
