Vacum question
I recently changed my oil and filter on my '85 300D and in do so I broke the three prong connecter where the green and yellow vacum line goes. And now I find that the car won't shut off by the ignition switch and that my door locks don't work. Would the damaged one prong of the three prong connector cause this? And is there something I can do in the mean time until I get the connector replaced so I can turn off the engine at the key?
Thanks |

An opening in the vacuum system causes a loss of vacuum and robs the various vacuum users of the vacuum they need to operate. Plug the broken connector if possible. And make sure the brown line is one of the ones that remains connected.

Are you referring to the yellow check valve? If so, follow Tango's advice, if that doesn't work, experiment with closing vac lines with key off, to find out what will shut off engine. A new check valve is around $5.00.

Get some good old duck tape over the three prong connector. Use small pieces to tape the broken parts together, then a long tape to seal over everything. Should make a good seal to get you started ....

Yes Tango it is the yellow check valve is on one end of the three prong connector and green and yellow is on the other.
Would using duct tape really work? |

duct tape
You won't know until you try, but it will work better than what you are using right now.
