Hi
Thought I would post an update
Got all the bits, took off the valve body. As we thought someone was in there before. The small plastic retaining nut/guide piece was missing which obviously led to the small push pin falling out. It wasn't in the pan with the push pin so unless the tranny chewed it up and spit it out of the exhaust, it was not replaced by the muppet who was in there before me. After the ATF service it runs a lot tighter. Everything feels the way I think it should apart from a full gas flare (only slight and only on full gas) between 2-3. I spoke to a transmission guy on the phone and he said to bring it down and they will set it up for about £50. He suspects it needs some fine tuning. Can this be done without gauges through trial and error using that adjusting thing on the side of the tranny?? . ..I beleive that will only rectify hard shifts and not flares (??) is that true.
Anyway thanks again for the help, especially Bob
Cheers
Adrian

How did you get the pin back in place? I've just found mine on top of the oil filter while investigating why I've got no forward gears.
Any advice on how you fixed yours would be very much apreciated.

dogbone in the transmission pan

I have the same problem as roadhog. I lost 1st gear at a stop light. I was just down the street from my house and made it back ok. It shifted ok once I was rolling, the 2,3,4 shift. Reverse works fine. After removing the trans pan to do a filter and fluid change, I found what I thought was the B2 thrust rod on top of the filter. I had changed the filter about 3K ago and it wasn't there then. I pulled the B2 piston and found the dogbone was in place! After more search I ran across the picture from iamamanc and that is the piece I found. The B2 piston appears to have the plastic bushing in the trans body. Piston #201 277 0138 D+S . There is a very small 92 stamped in a circle (I assume a manufacture date). This is on a 93 300D 2.5L. When I removed the B2 cover plate there was no spring pressure against it. I had to dig it out, contrary to what I have read others have. I would like to know what the final outcome was from roadhog and iamamanc. If someone could explain what I need to to do that would help. Do I drop the Valve Body? The tranny is still in the car, so it is definitely possible to do a B2 piston repair in a 124 300D.
