Glow Plug Recommendation for 99 E300D
Reading all these stories about glow plug replacement has me thinking that I need to start planning my own ordeal. In checking out Fastlane, it appears there are a couple (and maybe more) choices in the brand of glow plugs that can be used. Looking for recommendations as to which brand I should buy. The Bosch are currently slightly cheaper than the Beru, but want to buy the GP that will provide the best longevity.
Thanks. Wayne '99 E300 Turbodiesel |

Both would work equally well.

OEM on my car was Beru and that was what I used for repalcement.
In viewing photos of each, the Berus have a little more meat to them for the socket to grab ahold of, to my eye that appears more durable. Mine came out easy at 109K. I have no intention of removing them again until such time as one is confirmed to be bad and at that time will probably do that one only. edit: each of mine will get one full can of PB Blaster and soak for days before a wrench ever touches them too.

I would use OEM from the dealer, in fact I used them the last time I changed mine...they are not much more costly than aftermarket (Yes, I know they are made for MB by Bosch and Beru) but in my experience the generic aftermarket parts and OEM spec are NOT identical in all cases, so I stick to OEM whenever possible.
In fact, I was very impressed with the MB fuel filter compared to the aftermarket Mehle one I had in my car - the gasket on that one was much smaller and had shredded where the banjo bolt went in...so there's an example of OEM being different, and superior than aftermarket. I've found some sources that charge less for MB OEM than some aftermarket sources do, to boot! If you used aftermarket and it snapped off next time you went to take it out would you always have wondered "would this have happened had I spent an extra $5 for the OEM plug?"
