audi produces 233HP Diesel

0-62 in 5.5 seconds. Hopefully Benz will follow up with this.

To bad its a VW.. My opinion of VW has fallen so low.... They should have stuck to cheap air cooled engines. Atleast you got your monies worth.... The new ones have so many design problems, mechanical and electrical. Sigh.

This might be good news. I'll be very interested to see (1) how these are received and (2) how people feel about them a few years down the road. I could hope for enough success to convince them to offer a diesel engine here in something more to my personal taste - such as a nice wagon!

I point out, though, that the "0-60 in 5.5" is not being claimed for the 3-Liter V6. The article claims that for the V12 concept vehicle - with a bigger herd under the hood.

which one is 233HP? the two I see in the article are 500 and 650HP...
I agree about the style though... ick

"The 500-hp Q7 V-12 TDI concept? Although it's not earmarked for production, the concept features the world's first 2,000-bar Bosch Common Rail fuel injection system, hits 62 mph in just 5.5 seconds, and conforms to the Euro 5 emissions class that comes into effect in 2010. Fuel consumption is 20 mpg."

I know the reputation in Europe for the Jetta was so low that they renamed it the Vento.

But keep in mind that Audi won Sebring and LeMans in 2006 with turbodiesel engines. Something that would have been impossible even 5 years ago.

They look more and more like Hot Wheels all the time. Little cars on big giant wheels.

"Audi's first diesel toe into U.S. waters will be the Q7 Bluetec TDI, powered by a 3.0-liter V-6. It generates 369 lb-ft of torque at a superlow 1750 rpm, and pumps out 233 bhp. The "Bluetec" bit -- a brand name for clean-burn diesel technology that's shared with some Mercedes-Benz vehicles -- will help ensure that the diesel Q7 will meet emissions requirements in all fifty U.S. states."
I see this statement, but it does not state it's 0-60 times or it's fuel economy.

Millions of TDIs? What planet are you living on?

They're niche cars.

Ok hundreds of thousands.

Ahh yes, the TDI is a niche car says the 80's diesel Mercedes driver.

Hahaha I'm a HUGE fan of niche cars--

Check it-- He's gotten many parts bolted back on so I can get to smoothing out all the dents(EVERY panel has one..) His name is Theobould, and he's been hibernating in the garage since 2001

There's a neon coupé(a car with more of a following than anyone thinks) and the w123 as well.

I bought my first ex an Audi 5000S... Watercooled VW products are absolute junk. It'd be a lie to say that car was anything above abysmal. Hopes have been high for little ole VW in my book since I fell for their swoopy, economical little cars when I was a kid, but they just aren't building a product that appeals to me.

The A4/Jetta was too small last generation, now it is too expensive and has that silly 5-cylinder(yep-- I hated the Audi 5 THAT much.) engine and 30 airbags.

Maybe they'll make a sport tuned tdi Passat wagon with a 6-speed, panoramic roof and plaid interior. Until then, I'll stick with what's working fine!

Don't fight it man, if people hate water-cooled VW there's little that can be done to change that. Aside from maybe owning one or two.

MkII diesels are great. Just sold an 86 Golf diesel, I already miss her. Great resell value too.

Good grief, you couldn't be more correct. Little VW diesel rabbits, Golfs and the like (early 80's vintage) are bringing more than a lot of decent W123's. It's amazing!
I rode in WhiskeyDan's VW pickup and have been enamored with them every since. However, I can get nice W123's for less than a little stinkin' Rabbit......
