Hose kits

I have a 1980 300TD and I am going to replace the coolant hoses throughout the car. I have one of those climate control servos and what looks like about a good handfull of hoses to connect this to everything.

Does anyone know of a list of these hoses or maybe a kit that has them all included? If not is there any documentation on the hose sizes as I think it would just be easier to buy the hose by foot length with new clamps and cut them to length. It looks like there could be a few specific pre-made curved pieces that I may have to order.

I also have a plastic vacuume valve that is up by the firewall that hooks into a line that has quite a few metal pipes that then run inside to heat the interior. This piece appears to be leaking ever so slowly as I haven't had to top off the coolant but there is some coolant staining around this valve. Does anyone know what this is for or what it does? I am out of state right now so I cannot attach a picture.

It all makes sense to look at it and seems easy enough but I just don't have any data to tell me the correct measurements so I can get them all at once.

Any thoughts?

Just a quick comment....

It is very rare to blow a coolant hose on an MB diesel, almost unheard of. The clamps get tired after 20 years or so, but the hoses themselves seldom fail.

That said, I think Performance Products sells a hose kit for most MB models. No idea if the kit contains all the servo hoses though. You might give them a call and check it out.

No just replace them a few at a time. You guys with W123's are lucky you don't have $90 lower radiator hoses!

I replaced the heater hoses in my 71 Travco in the summer of 2005 since I thought they were old. Turned out there was no need to do it. They were in excellent condition. It was wasted effort.

Good advice. Why do you think that the hoses last so long? German engineering or a lower temp for the engine? There is no real show of a lot of wear or cracking, it is just that they haven't been changed in the three years that I owned the car. All the clamps appear to be in fine condition though. Thanks.

Hose replacing

Diesels seem much easier on hoses than gassers -- less heat to get rid of, I think (remember that big trucks block some of their radiators in winter to keep the coolant heat up to par).

On the other hand, having driven old cars all my life (tired iron, not classic beauties), I always feel better when I've replaced every hose on the thing -- little money for a lot of peace of mind.

You wouldn't have thought the Travco heater hoses were wasted effort if you had thought about it -- decided they didn't need it -- then blown one @ 2 AM some cold night with the family aboard ......

I only replace one of mine if I feel a soft spot on the hose when I squeeze it.

Yep because I know it will blow 500 miles from home, on a Sunday, in the middle of no where.

I don't take my SD anywhere so I keep an eye on them and have not had an issue. I'd drive the SDL to CA at the drop of a hat, and I don't want to take a chance with that car.
