Retrofitting IP from manual trans to auto trans duty?
I would like to change my '84 190D 2.2 from a 5-speed to an automatic. (I know, I know, most people want to go the other direction).
Anyway, what can be done to the IP to make it "auto trans" friendly. The auto trans. cars have some kind of vacuum controlling device which sends vacuum signals to the vacuum modulator about throttle position and load (I believe). My IP does not have this feature, as it was supplied with a 5-speed transmission. Is it possible to "convert" the IP configuration so that it will work with an auto trans? I will have access to an '87 190D 2.5T that will have an IP set up for an auto trans. That car will be receiving the 5-speed setup from the 2.2 car. Are there any other options if the IP is not reconfigurable? SteveM.
