Welp, looks like ill be calling the MB road side

So my college is freaking nuts. They are still having class today even though its -10 degs outside, and the wind chill is -30. How freaking clever of them..... anyway so i go to start my car and go figure, it wouldnt start. now the battery is dead from cranking a little over a minute, or 3 times. so im going to call the road side because i cant charge the car fast enough to get to school. is this a valid reason or what

Sounds like a good time for a block heater.

I don't recall ever having classes canceled for cold. I went to school in Waukesha, WI. Not the coldest place on earth, but cold enough.

I had a 6V volkswagen then. It had it's fair share of "won't start days" then also.

well when the wind chill in -25 and the actully temp is -10, most schools wouldn't have class. due to the fact of people waiting for buses outside and people that walk to school. well at least i have the morning off because their is no way i'm going to my English class. gosh i'm soo pissed!:fork_off:

Thumbs up I am in school this semester as well.....

My instructor told our class (Forest Surveying) that we would be outdoors, traversing in the woods tomorrow.....no matter the temperature....dress accordingly!!

I can see closing grade thru HS...but a college?? If there are no classes, then the administration will have to either entertain or control the resident student population......I can just imagine what my resident classmates would get into.....and the commuters/townies would just have to work around the family farm.....

SB

Note: it has warmed up to around 9*F so far today......supposed to be colder tomorrow as well....

I've gone to school in up state NY and in northern Sweden, both had days of -35 and greater without wind chill. I wish they had cancelled class but nope. I remember biking to school (my 77 saab would not start) about 2km in -40C weather, boy that was a ****ty day.

Yeah, it's hovering around zero right now in Ithaca, with winds at 20mph which is a wind chill of just about -15. Don't have a car to try to start, but my friend's old Toyota gasser complained a little bit last night when it did get to be a little below zero. His power steering was not working at all at that temperature.

One of my teammates said there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.

I guess you guys would all laugh at us in Austin when we had temps hovering around 29 F for about 3 and a 1/2 days straight a few weeks ago.

Yes all schools were closed, including UT and Texas State. Work as also closed, er, work from home day.

I'm 57, and a retired Licensed Marine Engineer had the career with the big buck job......don't have to work, because I have a nice pension annuity.....I began taking courses at the local College for personal knowledge......want to build a nice fence, thought a survey would be a great place to begin so it would be on my property for sure.....found out how much it would cost to hire a surveyor....will be several hundred dollars cheaper to just take the classes and sit for the license.....so I'm back at it again.....

My 300D is older than most of my classmates.......

My Power Wagon is older than the teacher.....

Ditto......Shorebilly!

Other scenarios........Layoffs, career field changes & more. Not to mention having to constantly update for changes in technology. Yes, I went back to college at 40 years old. Never say never.

Wow, is surveying that expensive? It wouldn't surprise me since it is nearly all labor.

Well i would have skipped but, i have 3 exams on wednesday and all the reviews were today, so after waiting about an hour for road side to come, they came in a new ML and jumped my car. Then i signed a piece of paper and i was off to class... uhgg. but anyways, at least it started.

No offense but its college not HS, welcome to the real world! You don't get to stay home from work because it is cold out. I commute to school and they only cancel class if there is some amazing snow, its a rare event.

Install a block heater and use it.
