Primer Pump on 603 from 87 300d

Hi guys,
Does the 603 have a fuel primer pump like the 617 does? I don't see one so I assume not.

If I'm right, how do you purge the lines when you change the fuel filters?

Just loosen the lines on the injectors and crank the engine or what?

Seems like a pain vs. just pumping fuel through the new filters with an Easy to reach hand pump as on the 617.

Just wondering... I'm buying a 603 equiped vehicle and curious.
Thanks,
Nick

Fill new large filter and re-start. It was recommeded to fill using center bolt hole with filter in place. Sounds like a good idea.

You are correct, the 603 is "self-priming". This means you just crank and crank and eventually it primes itself. But this is hard on the battery & starter.

Here is what I do: fill the fuel filter with fuel before installing. Then pull the fuel hose that supplies the injection pump. Attach a vacuum pump to this hose and suck the fuel all the way to that point. Re-attach the hose to the IP and crank until the car starts. This minimizes the amount of cranking you have to do, and only involves loosening one hose.

Fill the metal can filter with clean diesel or a diesel additive. And when you turn on the engine push the pedal to the floor. That way more fuel will be sent and youll fill up the filters quickly and push out all the air without having to crank the engine over and over for it to self prime.
