I botched the glowplug change.

I Replaced all four glowplugs on my 240d. It started and ran fine before i changed them. I did not take pictures of the metal lines that go to each glowplug as i thought it was self explanitory. well i messed something up because the car wont start now. the metal lines get hot but it refuses to start.
does anyone have a picture of the glowplug setup? this is a 79 240d with the porcaline pieces on the glowplug.

Thanks.

Just look at them and think of them this way: The current has to come in on one heavy wire, go thru the loop and out on the other heavy wire with the porcelein insulator keeping the two wires separate from each other.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere. Trace all the wires the you moved or touched.

How did you make out? Is the car back together? These glow plug connections arrange the plugs in a series electrical circuit. It is typical that the wavy buss bars are arranged so that they connect the same connection surface on adjacent plugs. So, the first wavy bar is close to the plugs, the next one is connects at the outer surface, then the inner surface. Assembly requires that you put the inner ones on first. Then the insulating collars and then the outer ones. Typically the first and last plug have a the wavy things on the inner connecting surface, and the power in and ground connections on the outer surfaces. Hope this helps and good luck. Jim

Hmmm... why replace them? Are you sure you bought the correct plugs? There are low voltage plugs meant to be wired in series (w/wavy wire bars) and 12V plugs meant to be wired in parallel. Do you have the p/n of the plugs you put in?

Thanks guy i fixed it. The wire that connects the number two glowplug to number three was in the wrong place. First time i have done the glowplugs in 4 years. The old ones were not that bad.
