I just completed the installation of a 1980 116 300D engine & 722.120 trans into a 1983 123 300D which had a 722.15 trans. The problems I now have are:
1. I spliced the rectangular neutral/backup light plug from the '80 to the wires that were connected to the round plug that was on the '83. Color codes were the same but now I can only start engine with shift selector in reverse & backup lights come on in park position. Also installed new shifter rod bushings.
2. Need to know what the two electrical parts are on the '80 trans (722.120). One is on passenger side toward the front of the trans case & the other is on the passenger side at the tail end of the trans. I assume one is kickdown but I have only one black wire that came off the tail end device on the '83.
3. Have no instrument cluster lights. Don't know if they worked before the transplant so it could be the dimmer reostat?
