I fixed mine about a month ago,, The coil will pull out by hand. The magnets and the brushes are holding it in now, but it will pull straight out.
You need to take it out to check the condition of the brushes and to clean out the metalic particles stuck to the magnets when the outer bearing trashed its self. When you turn it , you will feel a subtle "bumpity" as the brushes bear against the comutator.

I have the case apart and have split the face that holds the outer bearing. I haven't tugged or pulled on the coil, something is holding it in place. I didn't want to break anything.
Sounds like you are saying I needn't be shy and just pull the coil from the main frame?
