super hi 1200RPM at idle
not a diesel issue but never got any replies on the tech forum;
My pops 93 300TE just started staying idling at 1200 RPM. Any idea what this could be and what we should do? Thanks! AA .

Air is getting by the throttle butterfly, and it is coming through the air filter / air flow meter.
Could be the throttle is being held open mechanically, check that it is returning to the stop. Could be the idle valve, a valve that is attached to the intake on both sides of the throttle butterfly. It's been a while since I owned a gas M-B, I can't picture it exactly, but start looking at how air is bypassing the throttle and you should find the problem. If it is a simple vacuum leak, you can usually find the vacuum leak by spraying starting fluid in short bursts on different areas of the idling engine (being careful not to spray it on anything hot enough to ignite it). When you spray starting fluid near a vacuum leak on a gasoline engine the engine speed will increase.
