My *ahem* "Experimental" Emissions Control Removal......

Here are some pics of my "Experimental" "off-road use" Emissions Control System removal...

Accelerator pedal travel is much softer and more free and the transmission seems to shift softer too now.......

The only thing left is the actual EGR valve and that has a plate between the valve and intake manifold.

I haven't been able to figure out how to fashion a block off plate for the exhaust manifold so I have to leave the whole apparatus in place for now.....

Brian Carlton sells a block off plate. Good quality and through instructions. Too bad my intercooler fitting displaced my intake's EGR block off plate.

Kinda looks like my set-up!

Brian needs to make some more block-off kits (hint, hint)...

You ain't foolin me Lance, I distinctly remember a certain person's confession about their emissions test recently!

Besides, this is only "experimental" and I did the modification "off-road"

Turbos don't have that, I think only the 616s do.

So, that's all that the butterfly valve in the intake on a 616 is for is emissions? I'm trying to eliminate all the cruise control and unecessary vacuum crap on one of these motors and was wondering if I could delete all that linkage on the valve cover?

for the exhaust port i used a piece of sheet metal that i crafted to fit over the hole, i used the clamp to hold it onthere and had put on exhaust manifold sealent, in wich case is available at autozone for like $5 bucks. It is good for like 2,600 degrees f.

Thumbs up

I love my Emission Free 240D.

Come to think of it, all my vehicles are setup for "off-highway use only"

Brian should still have some of those kits, I purchased another late last year.

Talking EGR Valve vacuum disconnect

After reading quite a few posts on the EGR valve, I decided to remove the vacuum lines to the EGR valve and to the "black box" on top of the valve cover. All I can say is...Wow!

I had been making efforts to fix transmission shifting soon after purchasing my 300SD. I made vacuum leak repairs, modulator and bowden cable adjustments, transmission vacuum lever replacement. Also, I purchased a K1 spring kit (not installed until I replace filter and fluid).Overall, I really had improved the shifting to what I thought was as good as the old girl was going to get.

I was wrong. After the EGR vacuum disconnect I took her for a spin. What a difference to transmission shift and overall power. The transmission is as smooth as brand new. I assume the vacuum valves under the black box were not 100% as I have removed the vacuum lines to them with this EGR disconnect.

Power was very good previously, but is excellent now.

Just remember the higher the NOx the lower the co. So you one sense you are putting out less Carbon Monixide.

I thought cruise was electronic. ????? Am I missing something here???? Maybe it's just my 603.
