300D Manual Euro Camshaft Interchangeability?

Does anyone know if the 300D euro manual N/A motor has camshaft interchangeability between the US turbo and NA motors?

Thumbs up

Going to assume the Turbo motor is going to have a different profile.

What would be the point anyways? Also I believe that they will be made out of different metals, it says the diff in the FSM but not what years/models had them. I think its save to assume NA was softer and Turbo was harder.

The point is cam wear or suspected cam wear although replacement can't be verified yet. The car has only 150K on it which is odd.

I'll check the FSM when I get home. They had something very specific to say about it and I can't remember now.

Great! Thanks for looking that up. I figure it's a slim chance it would be an easy swap in the event that the camshaft needs replacing but if it does, finding one is going to be interesting.

Are you planning on installing the turbo cam in an NA engine or the other way 'round? I would expect the turbo cam to have no overlap and more lift and duration on the exhaust compared to the NA. If it will bolt in I would expect the engine to run fine and you likely won't know the difference. RT

Check camshafts made of malleable iron (code number 00) for wear. Formation of excessive flats on cams (arrow) may result in in loosening of counterlocked nuts. If flats show up renew....

On camshafts made of chilled cast iron (code number 05 and 08) a slight formation of flats is possible, but flats will not increase and are therefore technically insignificant.

05-210

So if you have and 05 or 08 then you don't need to worry about it. However this makes me wonder what the differences are in the 05 and 08.......
