Timing my 2.5 in line diesel non turbo

Hi
hoping that someone will have the information needed.
I have an 86 190 diesel,had the head off and the cam off.Now am having a hard time getting the car timed
Got the manual's directions and have followed them multiple times but I am getting contact on the second crank over.
Must be lining something up wrong...
Is there a mark for the camshaft TDC to the engine??
What am I lining up to?
