I got the tool in the lock, now what on my 124?

My searching here found posts telling me how to make the ignition lock removal tool, which I have done. I now have the tool in the lock, it feels like it has pushed the pawl out of the way but the tumbler won't come out. Do I have to remove the black steel bezel or does that come out with the tumbler? Do I need to do something else? I have a new tumbler and I see how the "tool" is supposed to work, but I can't get it to work on my old tumbler. I want to get this done before my lock will no longer turn I have resorted to leaving the key in the car and locking it with a seperate key. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

if it's the same as my 86sdl.yep the little tool allows the black bezel to turn.so if you can't turn the bezel your not pushing in hard enough with the little tool.

I'm sure I have the tool in correctly, it goes in farther than it does on the new tumbler. Is the 126 the same as the 124? My lock has two holes for the wire. How hard does the bezel turn? I have put a screwdriver on the notch and pounded and it won't move. Is it right hand or left hand thread? Do you take the knee bolster off and use a pipe wrench? I am getting a little frustrated.

I've tried pliers and the screwdriver in the notch and nothing works, I have tried two different size wire. The one I'm using now snugly fits in the hole. Any other suggestions?

It comes out the same way as the 123. If it isn't turning, you don't have the tool in all the way, or in the proper place.

Not turn!

I just swapped out the lock on my '87 W124 300DT. The lock does not turn to remove. You turn the key to the "accessory" position (#2), insert the "tool" in both holes as far as it will go, and then pull on the key. Out will come the key and the lock with the steel bezel (an anti-theft device) around it.

The wire needs to be stiff and about 2mm in diameter with bevels cut or ground on each end -- I suppose you've seen the pictures. If the lock won't come out then the wire isn't beveled correctly or it isn't in far enough to release the catches. You can feel the catches give when the wire goes in and then the lock comes out easily with no turning.

I've got the armored bezel to turn, but that is all it does, it does not unscrew. I guess I dont have the tool in properly. The wire I am using fits the hole perfectly, I wonder if a smaller wire would be better?

It seems that the W124 lock is diff than a w123 or w126, Suggest you read the post just above yours, put the "tool" into both holes and then just pull directly out. If i had a w124 id try it, but i dont. goodluck.
