Shut off lever
A friend has an 83?? 240d manual drive. His shut off lever doesnt work. Push as hard as you want and it doesnt kill the engine, it just stumbles. He believes its a Cali car but not sure, and neither am I.
Is this as easy as a bad shut off valve? Or can it get way way more involved? Im not sure of how well he would be able to take care of it himself.

Sounds like a bad shut off valve, or linkage could be bent or out of adjustment.

The shut off lever and shut off diaphragm are not related in case there is any confusion. I agree with checking the adjustment and checking for bends.

ah, see i wasnt fully aware of that. The car shuts off fine with the key, but his shut off lever is hard to push and doesnt fully kill the car. ill let him know what you guys suggest.

One time after I had been tinkering it wouldn't shut off with the key, or the shut off lever. It'd almost die, then pick right back up and run. I had to rev it up, and then push it down real fast, which worked after a few tries. I was about to crack a fuel line... it has worked perfectly since (with the key and with the shut off lever) so I haven't worried about it.
