300 TD Euro Lights
I have a 1982 300 TD with Euro lights and my front side marker lights will not come on (both sides). I have turn signals but no front side marker lights. The rear works fine. There is a single filament bulb in the turn/marker light. Any help would be appreciated.

They're probably wired to the city lights in the euro headlamps, not to the turn-signals.

Sounds normal. Europe does not require side marker illumination. The big clue is the single filament bulb. For side marker illumination you would have a dual filament socket and bulb.

What do I need to do to get them to work?

To work you must first install double filament sockets!, then wire the low wattage side of the bulb socket to the headlight power wire. Please put your year and type of vehicle in your signature. That way each time you post we already know the year and type. Is this vehicle a "grey market" car?

Rhe previous owner said it was a grey market car. The lights did work when I first got the car. Then I had it painted now they don't.

if it is a grey market euro wagon... then the side marker lights are non-existent on it. Only the US versions have those working. Euro MBs were not required to have that feature, hence the signal light use only. On the wagon, when you open your lights on the first switch (park lights), you'd have a peanut bulb turn on near your headlamp (if it is the square type). I wouldnt know if there was a peanut bulb on the rounded euro headlamps, never had a 123 with a rounded headlamps.

They are the square ones but where is this peanut bulb?

On my 123 CD I had the round euro headlights, the peanut bulb was in the headlamp reflector, above the headlight bulb. With the rear cover removed, you should see the separate socket if it exists. My car was a Calif car which I converted to euro lights, so I already had the dual filament turn signal socket. So with park lights on the side marker lit up the low wattage bulb as well as the peanut bulb. If, in fact, you have a single filament socket for side markers you never had parking lamps unless you rotated the headlight switch to the left from the vertical off position. The two detents in the left position allowed for left or right side illumination depending on switch position which is required in at least Germany.
