I really like the late model W211's, get a CPO CDI with a warranty.
I *think* 2004 was the first year back, and they had the I6 till 2005 or 2006. The I6 looks a lot like a 603/606 with a different injection system, so probably not to bad to fix. The new V6 is a cool engine though, 400ft pounds of torque! The W211 is a great car, I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I wasn't in school. Get a nice warranty and let someone else work on it.

My suggestion would be a w124 300D or even the non turbo 95 E300. They are straightforward to work on and return mileage that will be considered average in a couple more years.

If you're planning to burn biodiesel, it's been my experience that the MBZ IDI engines do a whole lot better than the DI models.

I've heard the same thing. Which models are the IDI? Got to be all the pre 85's. i.e. 616, 617. But after 85, is the 87 to 95 300d IDI? Just curious.

All Mercedes diesels are IDI, well except for the CDI.

I believe IDI is "indirect injection" (someone correct me if I'm wrong). What does CDI stand for?

IDI actually stands for Inline Diesel Injection. But all of these are prechamber (indirect) injection systems.
