Crankshaft seal/Rear main seal
Question....I have a 300sd (350,000) which recently had a new crankshaft installed after I spun a rod. After pickup I noticed an oil leak on my garage floor between the motor and the tranny. To keep the story short, I've made several trips to my local Indy to resolve the leaks. Most recently he pulled the motor to change the crankshaft seal/rear main seal. He claims the new crank had all parts to include new rear main from Mercedes. Picked the car up after a week and same problem. Indy now suggests that the upper oil pan must be warped after doing the job a second time. Any thoughts, as I'm not so anxious to spend $400.00 on a new upper oil pan.

Is it the same mechanic that did all the work? If so, their responsibility to replace upper oil pan, as they warped it. If that's the case. You would think they correctly installed rear seal. Sorry this doesn't help much.

Yes.....Same mechanic, who at this point has refused to redo the work,as the business was sold midway through the work being done on my auto. So, I'm going after the crook through the courts.

Sounds like you've got your hands full. Short cuts, perhaps, by a mechanic that is aware of business sale. You might feel better knowing you helped finance the deal. Did not even know of upper oil pan till I looked it up. The gasket there may not have been replaced, maybe noyhing was done. GOOD LUCK!
